- Our Services
At High Point Psychological Associates, we work diligently
to ensure that your experience with us is calming, focused, supportive, and caring. We strive to move on your issues and
concerns without unnecessary delay and to help you to arrive at solutions and alternatives in a manner that is tailored to
your values and lifestyle. Every client is treated with respect and sensitivity. After an initial evaluation, we will
discuss with you our impressions and treatment recommendations. If other services are required we will make the necessary
referrals. We are pleased to offer assessment, individual therapy, family and marital therapy, and other counseling services
to adults, children and adolescents.
- Psychological Assessment Services:
Psychological assessment
refers to those interview and testing services aimed at assisting the individual, physician, or referring agency in a better
understanding a variety of cognitive and/or personality issues. The services include an initial evaluation, and may include
a review of records, behavioral observations, structured questionnaires, and psychological testing. Psychological tests often
include measures of personality, emotional functioning, intellectual ability, academic achievement, educational/career assessment,
and/or neuropsychological functioning (e.g., memory and concentration).
With over 25 years of experience in assessment,
Dr. Ricketson is able to provide a variety of evaluations aimed at specific problems or concerns. Sometimes these problems/concerns
are life-long (developmental), or they may be acquired. Regardless, the evaluation is designed to address the nature of each
individual's problem/concern, in order to provide for diagnostic impressions, recommendations, and/or treatment planning.
Each evaluation includes acquisition of a complete history and pertinent background information. Some of the common presenting
issues include:
• Behavioral, Emotional, or Social Adjustment • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder
• Learning Disability • Academic Problems • Educational or Career Indecision • Developmental
Disabilities • Academic Giftedness • Mental Retardation • Neuropsychological (cognitive and behavioral/emotional
issues resulting from neurological conditions, e.g., Dementia, Stroke, Traumatic Brain Injury) • Competency • Psychological
Fitness Evaluations (e.g., law enforcement, elective medical or surgical procedures, firefighters/paramedics, airline pilots,
etc.)
A psychological evaluation generally takes about 2-4 hours. Costs are variable, depending upon the extent of
the assessment. Appointment times are flexible. Many insurance policies cover some or all of the fees, depending upon the
diagnosis and policy restrictions.
- Professional Counseling Services:
Clients seek professional
counseling for difficulties due to normal life events or due to chronic generalized problems with anxiety, depression, anger,
guilt, or other emotional disorders. We enter into a counseling relationship with you, with optimism and trust in your progress.
Counseling is a dynamic process that involves your active participation. The outcomes you realize will be the changes that
you make. Sometimes changes will occur quickly, while at other times, you may perceive them as moving slowly. For optimal
benefits, you will need to work on changes both inside and outside of the counseling sessions. Our counseling approach is
integrative and consists of insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral and/or systems theory principles, tailored in such a way
to benefit the unique aspects of each individual and his/her situation. Play therapy is often the most appropriate approach
for children. We also utilize additional therapeutic techniques when necessary to meet your and/or your family’s needs and
to facilitate growth. Sessions are typically 45-50 minutes in length and appointment times are usually flexible. Most insurance
plans are accepted.
